25 FAVE PHOTOS FOR 2012: “Art in the Inner City”, Bahay Nakpil-Bautista, Barbosa Street, Quiapo District, Manila. Tucked in a narrow, crowded alley of Quiapo is the Bahay Nakpil-Bautista, an oasis of arts and culture in an area often equated with urban decay. Took this picture during the launching of a book on “baybayin calligraphy”, one of the major advocacies of the said institution. The fine Tagalog calligraphy symbolic of the aesthetic finesse of the place provides a stark contrast with the “hard life” of Barbosa Street, it’s street urchins and neighborhood toughies.
